What is Botox®?
Firstly, Botox® is a brand name for Botulinum toxin. There are three Medicines Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)-licenced Botulinum toxin drugs in the UK, namely Bocouture®. Botox®, and Azzalure®.
These are fall under the neuromodulator category of drugs. People interchange the terms neuromodulators, anti-wrinkle or wrinkle reduction injections, and this is because this class of drugs are designed to relax, or “modulate,” specific muscles responsible for wrinkling the skin.
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein which works by relaxing the target muscle and it does this without changing its structure. Because it is naturally occurring our body is able to metabolise it naturally.
All the neuromodulators (wrinkle reducers) we use are approved by the MHRA in the UK for three main areas:
- Between the eyebrows
- Along the forehead
- Around the eyes
FAQs
Does it change the shape of my face?
No, neuromodulators don’t alter the shape of your face! Neuromodulators work by relaxing the target muscle without changing its structure. Typically changes in face shape are due to dermal fillers or more invasive plastic surgery procedures.
Do the treatments reduce and prevent wrinkles?
The short answer is yes!
There is no set formula by what degree or number of wrinkles but the consistent use of neuromodulators (Botox®, Bocouture®, Azzalure®) when done expertly work like other forms of preventive care. Just as sunscreen and moisturisers help prevent skin aging, neuromodulators (Botox®, Bocouture®, Azzalure®) help prevent and reduce wrinkles over the long term.
Is there downtime?
No, you can get back to your day straight after treatment. We would advise you avoiding exercise, immediately after treatment. It is also a good idea to avoid blood thinners and alcohol for 24 hours to help reduce the small chance of bruising.
How many units do I need?
The dose needed is science based and highly individualised. Where it is administered on the face and the amount used have a bearing on the effect. The aim is achieving a naturally refreshed look, maintaining the natural expression that makes you uniquely you.

How long does it take to work?
There is a lag period, normally it takes about 3-5 days before you start to notice the effects, reaching full results 14 days after treatment.
Will it make me look unnatural or not like me?
We don’t believe wrinkle reducing injections should be done to eliminate facial expression. You should look like a more refreshed natural looking you!
What areas do you treat?
We focus on all FDA and MHRA approved and licenced areas of the upper face, between the eyebrows, along the forehead and around the eyes
Do wrinkle reducing injections hurt?
Generally, the treatment is not painful, if needed we use topical local anaesthetic prior to treatment to make you more comfortable.
After care
It is common that there may be slight red or raised areas immediately after treatment, but these usually disappear within minutes. There is a small chance of bruising at the fine treatment points. You should avoid makeup on the injected areas for 24 hours.
Exercise
You can safely enjoy any work out prior to treatment. Afterward, though, you’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise for about 24 hours and not lie down on your face for 4 hours. This prevents treatment from migrating where it shouldn’t
Alcohol and blood thinners
For a quick recovery with less chance of bruising, we advise avoiding blood thinners and alcohol for 24 hours.
Headaches
Occasionally some patients may experience a headache, and more rarely flu-like symptoms after the treatment. For this we would generally advise taking paracetamol, and symptoms should resolve quickly.
What are the risks
With over 30 years of use in cosmetic treatments, wrinkle reducing injections are recognized as a tried and tested treatment with minimal risk. Evaluated based on safety, affordability, and convenience, neuromodulators remain one of the leading choices out there.
